Be gone Deer Flies!

Today I finally went into Pisgah State Park for a run.  We tend to stick to the Kilburn Loop in the summer due to the invasion of Deer Flies.  Only the super tough go into the park during the summer months- like Donna Smyth and probably Gary Montgomery.  Greg thought he caught a glimpse of Brian Rusiecki coming out of Pisgah passing our house, but he wasn't sure because he couldn't see facial features due to the cloud of deer flies still following the guy.  I saw a big group of mountain bikers coming out from the park down our road as well.  Crazy. It's brutal.  Greg did a couple runs across Hubbard and Davis to Kilburn that he said weren't too bad, but we get to be in there all year so we (okay maybe just I) don't torture ourselves when the deer flies make it miserable.  Feel free to comment if you've been in there this summer and add yourself to this exclusive list!

Anyway, I ran what Greg calls "vistas".  It's basically the 23K course trails minus the section from Kilburn and over Davis Hill.  (I'll do the whole thing in a couple weeks).  It was a nice day to be in there and early enough to beat the humidity. Griffin and I gave Greg and George a 20 minute head start, mostly to scare any sasquatch or bears that may be still out for breakfast.  I haven't seen a bear and Greg has only seen a couple in 9 years of running in there almost daily, but it still plays on my mind a bit.  I hadn't been on these trails in a long time.  I usually stick to Old Chesterfield Road and South Woods Trail, but need to change it up this year a little. I had forgotten how hilly Reservoir Trail is!  I was ready for the Pisgah Ridge but it's always breathtaking to get to the top.  I took pictures along the way.  It will be cool to see these views change over the next few weeks as fall start to come around.  These loaded in backwards order, but you get the idea....

Baker Pond- this will change dramatically as fall comes about...

FALL!

I haven't been posting much because I don't have internet at home and now that I'm back at work, well, I'm working.  Hope everyone's excited for the race!  I know I am as I was sick last year and just watched.  The weather has been great the past couple years so let's hope for another awesome fall day.  I'll post some foliage pictures as I get them!
